“It’s Time for All Americans to Get Involved” BALTIMORE – From national security to energy security to protecting and restoring our environment, U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) today told Morgan State University students at a Town Hall meeting that “our nation is at a crossroads and the next President and Congress must work together to find solutions to the serious challenges facing our nation.” Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and the Environment and Public Works committees, told the students that it was time for all Americans to get involved and to take seriously the many issues facing our nation. During his talk, he told the students: “The next President and Congress must deal with the War on Terror, global warming, the energy crisis, and the downturn in our nation’s housing market and the economy. We need leadership that will move our nation forward so we can become energy secure by developing renewable and alternative energy sources. We need to take action now that will significantly reduce the build up of greenhouse gases so we can lessen the rate of climate change.” Senator Cardin, who spent 20 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and has been in the Senate since January 2007, also stressed the need for Congress to become less partisan and to work with the new President to solve our nation’s problems. “The key is leadership and a vision. The next President must have a vision that can rally our nation and provide the leadership we need to deal with these issues. The key is a partnership between the President and Congress. A strong President can provide the leadership that is needed to work with Congress to get legislation passed.” He added: “The days of inaction and delay must be behind us. The issues are too grave to allow meaningful action to dissolve into partisanship.”
