Shriver Hall Concert Series 50th Anniverary Season begins with the commanding piano-playing of Yefim Bronfman - one of the most sought-after artists anywhere and a Series favorite. On Sunday, September 20th at 5:30pm Mr. Bronfman will perform sonatas from Sergei Prokofiev's early period as part of his season long exploration of Prokofiev's complete keyboard works with the Berlin Philharmonic and at Carnegie Hall. He will also perform works by Schumann. A pre-concert talk by Towson University’s Carl Schmidt will take place at 4:30pm in Shriver Hall’s Clipper Room.
The New York Times describes Bronfman as “…the same kind of pianist as Prokofiev was a composer…he is a virtuoso, with chops that need fear no comparison…” As part of his season-long focus on Prokofiev’s keyboard works – anchored by performances in Berlin, Carnegie Hall, and Cal Performances – Bronfman performs Prokofiev’s sonatas Nos. 2, 3 and 4, juxtaposed with Schumann’s Faschingsschwank aus Wien and Arabeske.
