We are so excited to announce the launch of our ArtWorks for Freedom ACTION DC! awareness campaign.

Beginning with the formal opening of the art exhibit, “Bearing Witness: Visualizing Modern Slavery,” at Gallery 102, George Washington University, on September 29, and continuing through the month of October and into November, ArtWorks for Freedom, together with our partners, will present a series of exhibits, film screenings, participatory arts events, dance, panel discussions and more in venues throughout the Washington metro area.

OCTOBER 5 : OPENING KICKOFF PARTY at POV at W Hotel DC, 515 15th St NW, Washington, DC 20004

Featuring opening remarks by DC Attorney General Karl Racine, Blue Campaign Manager Mick McKeown and Juanita Hardy, co-founder of Millennium Arts Salon and a special performance by contributing artist and digital mixage composer Paul Miller, aka DJ Spooky.

OCTOBER 8 AND 9: CALL & RESPONSE – SPOKEN WORD PERFORMANCE

Collaboration between writers and visual artists. Poetry readings with projections of paired artwork.   Busboys and Poets (14th Street on October 8, Takoma Park on October 9).   

OCOTBER 14 AND 15: DANCE PREMIERE:  “STRONG IN THE BROKEN PLACES”

Original 4-part Dance  inspired by Kintsugi, an evocative metaphor for the journey of trafficking victims and survivors from trauma and healing, to repair and reinvention. Funded in part by a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. By choreographers Christopher K Morgan, Holly Bass, Erica Rebollar and PearsonWidrig A co-production with Dance Place    Get tickets here.
