Evoking the Parisian musical scene of the 19th and early 20th centuries, at this season-closing concert at the Embassy of France, soprano Jennifer Casey-Cabot and bass Denis Sedov

will perform works by Charles Gounod, Modest Mussorgsky,

pianist Vera Danchenko-Stern, RCAS founder and artistic director.

Jennifer Casey-Cabot, a graduate of Oberlin and Yale, will sing pieces from Pauline Viardot's French repertoire as well as several of the celebrated soprano's settings of Russian texts. She will also sing:

"Five Poems of Anna Akhmatova" and Natasha's aria from "War and Peace" both by Prokofiev,

an aria from Stravinsky's "The Nightingale" first performed in Paris by Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in 1914.

Denis Sedov, a Jerusalem Academy graduate and a former member of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, will sing selections from legendary Russian bass Feodor Chaliapin's signature repertoire, including:

Méphistophélès's aria from Gounod's "Faust"

Mussorgsky's "Song of the Flea" and

Aleko's cavatina from Rachmaninov's "Aleko".

In addition, violinist Emil Chudnovsky will play excerpts from Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" and "The Love for Three Oranges" and pianist Genadi Zagor will improvise on themes of Stravinsky.

All this, plus a wine and dessert reception with the artists and your fellow lovers of art song and Russian culture.
