The Russian Chamber Art Society invites you, on December 5, 2014 at 7:30 pm to the Austrian Embassy, to be the first in Washington, DC to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the birth of Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky. His ballet music (The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty) is the most performed in the world over of any composer; his concertos and symphonies are enjoyed; and his operas (such as Eugene Onegin and The Queen of Spades) are well-known. But one of his favorite musical forms for which he was justly admired was the Russian art song, or romance, in which he could speak to the intimate personal experiences common to all walks of life.
He was the first Russian composer to make a name for his music internationally, probably the first Russian to be a full-time composer, and likely the first to place Russian music within the broader European musical culture. To honor these achievements, the RCAS is performing "Tchaikovsky is Forever", a concert in which world-renowned artists and rising stars will amply demonstrate the range of Tchaikovsky's talents.
