Hundreds of Sonia Sotomayor Supporters to Rally on Capitol Hill for Judge
U.S. Senators Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD) and Charles Schumer (D-NY), both members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, will join with civil rights and labor leaders on Wednesday, August 5 at 12:00 PM, to voice support for Judge Sonia Sotomayor to be the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. The rally will take place during the Senate debate on Judge Sotomayor’s nomination. A final vote is expected Thursday.
The Senate Judiciary Committee last week voted overwhelmingly to recommend Judge Sotomayor for confirmation. Judge Sotomayor possesses a well-rounded legal background, including extensive experiences as a prosecutor, trial judge and appellate judge. For 17 years she has been a distinguished jurist and now has more federal judicial experience than any Supreme Court nominee in the last hundred years. If confirmed, Judge Sotomayor will become the first-ever Latina and only the third woman to serve on the Nation’s highest court.
